Brief explanation of the Ayotzinapa case (El Daily Post)

Almost a year after the National Commission of Human Rights (CNDH) issued 26 observations and proposals regarding the Iguala case, there is still a long list of pending issues for the Attorney General's Office (PGR), many of which are key to getting to the truth of the events that occurred on September 26 and 27, 2014 [attack on Ayotzinapa normal school students, murder of three and disappearance of forty-three].

Among the outstanding tasks is the further analysis of expert to compare whether the soil contained in the bag recovered from the San Juan River, where the remains of one of the 43 Ayotzinapa students were presumably found- corresponds to soil from the Cocula dump [where it is alleged at least some of the students were incinerated], and if other objects found contain components of the fuel which, according to the official version, was used to cremate the bodies of the students.

Another point is that the PGR still has not taken on the case of Julio Cesar Mondragon Fontes, tortured and killed the day of the incident in a savage beating, resulting in his body showing 64 fractures. This omission is inexplicable, as they have all the legal elements to take over the case. This murder cannot be seen in isolation, but as part of the cluster of events that occurred in Iguala. For José Larrieta Carrasco, director of the Special Office for the Iguala Case in the CNDH, compliance with these 26 observations and proposals made to the PGR on July 23, 2015 are key actions to advance the case.

"It is essential that these observations are addressed, because from our point of view, they are essential to the case, for the investigation; without those, I don't think one can get to the truth," he said.
