Archeologists Explore Structure in Mexican Desert Prensa Latina

Archeologists at Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (NIAH) and the University of Arizona explored for the first time a fragile and intact architectural structure belonging to ancient farmers in the Sonoran desert.

Experts estimate that the place was a ceremonial center linked to myths about the creation of farmers' communities in the desert.

With the use of the geo-radar, researchers could study the zone in La Playa area, located in the valley of the Trincheras municipality, before the wind and water disintegrated it, a NIAH statement said.

Erosion destroys the traces but also uncovers them, the statement adds.
