OMCT fights torture around the world (OMCT / SOS-Torture Network)

The World Organization Against Torture (OMCT) asks for progress from the Mexican government in the open investigations for irregularities and violations of human rights investigations, and in particular the alleged recurrent use of torture, committed during the Ayotzinapa investigation.

Gerald Staberock, Secretary General of OMCT, said,

"We have very clear evidence that they have been tortured since the beginning of the investigation. Despite that, we still have no evidence that suspects might have been examined, and statements obtained under torture continue being used as key testimonies."

Also Staberock urges the Mexican authorities to accept and provide the necessary support to the monitoring mechanism in order to ensure implementation of recommendations made by the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (IGIE) regarding the enforced disappearance.

The OMCT emphasizes that in the second report, published on April 24, 2016, the IGIE, whose mandate expired on April 30, outlines the results of a study of 17 cases of persons indicted for the disappearance of 43 normalistas in Iguala (Guerrero) night from September 26-27, 2014, who claimed to have been victims of torture and ill-treatment since their arrest.

"Among the study's findings, based on documentation available in the file, experts conclude that in all cases numerous lesions appear after admission of detainees to facilities of the Deputy Attorney General Specialized in Investigation of Organized Crime (SEIDO ) or Federal Centers for Social Rehabilitation (CEFERESO), as appropriate," says the text of the organization.
