Time to Lock Up Your Twitter Account with Two-Factor (wochit Tech)

According to TechCrunch, there's been a massive leak of twitter user information, first discovered by LeakedSource. All told, nearly 33 million users had their data breached, including their email addresses, usernames and passwords. The contents of the leak (namely, plaintext files) lead LeakedSource to believe that the information was culled from malware infecting web browsers rather than twitter itself. Twitter seems to confirm this.

“We are confident that these usernames and credentials were not obtained by a Twitter data breach – our systems have not been breached. In fact, we’ve been working to help keep accounts protected by checking our data against what’s been shared from recent other password leaks,” a Twitter spokesperson told TechCrunch.

It's also believed that most of the affected users are located in Russia, as 6 of the 10 most common email domains are Russian. That's not much comfort, however, especially considering hackers' penchant for selling data dumps like this online for pennies on the dollar. It would also appear that no one is truly safe, as even Mark Zuckerberg himself was recently the victim of a Facebook hack.

...That's the bad news. The good news is that, if you fly off the handle and tweet some really awful shit, you now have plausible deniability.
