In Oaxaca, Mexico, cultural traditions are still very strong. Innovating Tradition is a non-profit company that works to share traditional Oaxacan ceramics around the world. The pottery is distinct in its style, which mainly uses black clay, but within the tradition there is a lot of diversity in style among different villages.

Innovating Tradition also hopes to modernize the ancient processes through workshops held for local artisans. The company hopes that international sales of the pottery will encourage a slowdown in globalization's destruction of many of Oaxaca's workshops. If there is enough demand for the product artisans will be able to employ more people and will be more likely to pass traditions down to their children.
