Meet Ada. Along with her three-year-old son Brian, she fled her home after gangs threatened her. Thanks to UNHCR, Ada and Brian have found shelter and protection at a transit shelter in Mexico. (UNHCR)

This is a powerful story of a woman who was turned into a refugee because of gang violence in her Central American country. For those of us in the United States, Ada’s story is a reminder that the refugee crisis is truly a global phenomenon. It’s not just happening in the middle east or Africa, but on America’s doorstep as well.
