Sandra Ávila Beltran has lived, worked and loved inside the upper echelons of the Mexican drug world since the late 1970s.
Released last year after serving a seven year prison sentence – including two years in solitary confinement – Ávila, 56, gave her first interview in nearly a decade.
She spoke to the Guardian’s Jonathan Franklin in an exclusive three-hour meeting from her home in Guadalajara.
