Locals Re-Enact Battle of Puebla in Mexico City on Cinco de Mayo Ruptly TV

Locals from the Penon de los Banos neighborhood of Mexico City celebrated the Mexico holiday of Cinco de Mayo on Thursday, by re-enacting the Battle of Puebla, commemorating Mexico's victory over France on 5 May 1862.

Locals took to the streets to watch a reenactment of the historical battle against European imperialism, played out using rifles and cannons.

Napoleon III sent French troops to invade Veracruz State in 1861, marking the beginning of the Franco-Mexican War. According to historical facts, France had an estimated 6,000 men sent to attack the city of Puebla, which was defeated by a Mexican army of around 2,000. France went on to capture the capital and took over, but the victory of Cinco de Mayo helped to sustain an independence struggle, which eventually led to Mexicans toppling the French in 1867.
