Brief explanation of the Ayotzinapa case (El Daily Post)
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said she is “shocked” that the Peña Nieto administration has yet to clarify what happened to the 43 students still missing after a violent series of incidents in Iguala, Guerrero, in September 2014.
“It is outrageus,” Clinton said. “If I were part of the Mexican government, I would not rest until I had found out what happened with these 42 (sic) students. Their disappearance was a terrible violation of the law.”
Clinton made the statements during an interview with El Diario, a Spanish-language newspaper published in New York City.
The former U.S. secretary of state added that the so-called Ayotzinapa tragedy is an event “that should bring all Mexicans together to uncover the answers.”
The former first lady said that if she wins the presidency she will work hard to make the United States a good partner for Mexico — a nation she visited five times as secretary of state — and would “press for (political) reforms and greater respect for human rights.”
Nearly 19 months after the tragic events in Iguala, the Mexican government has still not produced scientific evidence to explain what happened to the 43 students that were kidnapped by local police and allegedly turned over to one of the drug gangs that operates in Guerrero.
