U.S. Presidential hopeful Donald Trump might seek to score points among his followers for wanting to build a wall to keep out the Mexicans, but it’s too late — they have already arrived.

A vigorous and vibrant south-of-the-border influence is already making its mark on everything from the food we want to eat, to the way we want to spend our vacations and outfit our homes and closets.

Call it the taco truck gone couture: what fascinates about this latest Mexican style moment is that contrary to its simple origins, it’s making a statement on the racks of super-luxe boutiques, the menus of luxe spas and restaurants and in the decor of high-end resorts and hotels.

As designers and stylists flock to style destinations such as Baja, Tulum and Frida Kahlo’s Casa Azul in search of inspiration, notions of mescal bars and Aztec patterns dancing in their heads, they are coming back with suitcases crammed with Mexican weaving, unpolished chunks of agate and artisanal Coqui Coqui candles and perfumes, with which they mean to transform the modern minimalism of their lofts into something more authentic and powerful.
