Satellite Internet Improves Lives in Mexico (NewCom International)

A survey conducted by Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has revealed that the most commonly used devices to connect to the internet are the mobile phone (67%) and the desktop computer (50%). Five percent of internet users have switched providers in the past twelve months.

While the price is the main reason for selecting the internet service (18%), perceived quality is the main reason for remaining with an operator (37%).

In the fixed market, 61 percent of users polled have a plan that includes long distance calls to the US and Canada, however only 26 percent make international long distance calls. In mobile telephony, 21 percent of pre-paid respondents and 36 percent of post-paid respondents change their terminal equipment every two years.

Around 58 percent of pre-paid users polled make a top-up of between MXN 10 and MXN 50. Eight in ten pay-TV subscribers have contracted a basic package.
