Government Delivers 3 TVs Per Second Ahead of Mexico's Digital Switchover Agencia EFE

The government is providing citizens with three digital televisions per second ahead of the end of analog broadcasting in Mexico on Dec. 31, Communications and Transportation Secretary Gerardo Ruiz Esparza said.

"The delivery of televisions is being completed at a rate of three per second, seven days a week, to wrap up the process of transitioning to digital broadcast television before Dec. 31," Ruiz Esparza told reporters on Saturday.

The supply of televisions ranges "between 70, 80 and 100,000 units per day," the secretary said, adding that the goal was to provide 9.7 million televisions to that many families.

The government is making "a great effort" across Mexico to achieve the goal, Ruiz Esparza said.

President Enrique Peña Nieto said Friday that the devlivery of televisions was being done "at a very rapid pace" due to the approaching deadline.
