Casa Hogar Los Angelitos in Manzanillo, Mexico, is asking for monetary help in providing food to the 82 orphaned children that are cared for at the facility.
Casa Hogar, funded by The Children's Foundation based in Colorado, suffered minor damage from Hurricane Patricia, but the real trouble is food, according to development director, Susan Larson.
"The children are safe and sound and buildings are still standing," she said on Monday. "We had roof tiles and areas of the roof that are damaged. Some broken windows, repairs need to be done to the outside doors. But the most pressing need is food. Approximately 80 percent of food for the past few years has been donated."
And it has been donated by area businesses that were either wiped out by the hurricane or suffered a lot of damage and need to be rebuilt.
Larson said that The Children's Foundation — founded by Nancy Nystrom of Loveland — needs help feeding the children while they look for new donation sources.
