Buried in the 85-volume official report on the disappearance of 43 college students in Iguala last year are revelations of gross irregularities that appear to be serious enough to possibly jeopardize at least some aspects of the investigation.

The “serious faults” in the process include police personnel infiltrating a team of experts, the apparent planting of spent ammunition in the supposed site of the murder of the 43 young people, and the mislabeling of a significant number of possible remains sent to Austria for DNA testing.

Notice of the anomalies came from the forensic group known as the EAAF (Spanish initials for the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team) that has been collaborating with the official Mexican investigation. The group said they were "serious."

It informed the Federal Attorney General’s Office (PGR) of the spurious experts and planted casings on Jan. 29 this year, but the information was never commented upon nor made public until the investigation report was released on Sunday.
