U.S. President Barack Obama is reaching out to his Mexican counterpart Peña Nieto as Washington tries to conclude a massive Pacific Rim trade deal next week.

The White House says Mr. Obama called Mr. Nieto this week to discuss “the importance of bringing the negotiations to a swift conclusion.”

So far, however, Prime Minister Stephen Harper hasn’t received a phone call from the White House this week on the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, his staff say.

Trade ministers are preparing to gather in Atlanta September 30 as Washington and Tokyo launch what they hope will be a final push for a TPP deal.
