Marisol Soto, a Mexican immigrant who has been granted asylum in the U.S, has never before publicly spoken about her case — until now.

It began when the 21-year-old Arkansas resident, along with the help of two friends, decided to challenge people of all nationalities to write the word #undocumoney in red ink on a dollar bill and then post a selfie of them holding the currency on social media.

The campaign, aimed at raising awareness about how much undocumented immigrants contribute to the economy, has rapidly picked up momentum globally two weeks later.

Soto, who says she’s not afraid to expose herself as an undocumented immigrant, said she hopes the trend helps change people's misconceptions that the undocumented community is a drain to the economy.
