National Action Party (PAN) senators and deputies suggested that the Permanent Committee issue a General Public Servant Anti-Corruption and Administrative Responsibility Law, which would reward functionaries who combat corruption in their institutions. The law would also create a complaint collection system as well as a “black list” of guilty public servants.

PAN President Ricardo Anaya Cortés said that Mexico is experiencing a profound credibility crisis within its political institutions, due to a lack of information in fundamental areas and rampant corruption which is hurting the political system in the country. “The reform proposes a radical change, so that the institutions are truly autonomous, independent and responsible for investigating corruption,” said Anaya.

“It will instead be the job of the Federal Auditing Agency, helped by expanded powers. Should an investigation require penal action, the federation will be able to refer the issue to the Special Prosecutor for Crimes Related to Acts of Corruption,” said the PAN president.

“No longer will employees be responsible for judging or absolving their boss, which happened just a few days ago. Now, independent and autonomous organisms will be responsible for judging what others have investigated,” Anaya said.
