The city of Playa del Carmen has the first inclusive beach for the disabled in Mexico. (Riviera Maya News)

A project paid for by DIF Solidaridad, offers a special area where disabled people can go to use specialized equipment including water lounge chairs and walkers.

The area, which is located next to the main ferry dock, is outfitted with specialized personnel and equipment that allows disabled beachgoers the ability to relax, have fun and access the beach.

Mayor of Solidarity, Gongora Mauricio Escalante, conducted the remodeling of the inclusive beach which is now outfitted with water lounge chairs, amphibious walkers, adaptable canes and ramps that help provide easy access to the beach. This area of the beach has been fully adapted for people with disabilities so they can enjoy entertainment and coexist with all residents and visitors.

...The equipment can be used from 08:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including the trained staff, who are there to cater to those with disabilities.
