The Mexican Government Is Being Forced to Reveal Its Most Wanted Criminals El Daily Post

A resolution passed this week by the nation’s top transparency institute required the Peña Nieto administration to reveal who the top-priority targets are. When it does, the public will be in a better position to evaluate its government’s security efforts.

The list of high-ranking capos taken in by federal forces during the Peña Nieto administration is impressive — El Chapo, La Tuta, Z-42, El H, Z-40, to name just a few.

In fact, according to the federal government, 97 of the 122 top crime figures targeted by the administration have been arrested or killed.

But while information about the captured kingpins is well publicized, the public has never been told the names of the top targets still at large. With additions, there are 32 high-level criminals on Mexico’s most-wanted list, but those outside the administration don’t know who they are.

That may be about to change. In a unanimous vote on June 16, commissioners of the INAI, the nation’s top transparency institute, passed a resolution requiring the Peña Nieto administration to reveal the names of its 32 “priority objectives” within 10 working days.
