Officials and civilians in México who want to prevent violence and crime in their community now have an easy-to-access guide do it.

The Mexican government in collaboration with the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID, this week presented the first electronic book, or e-book, with tips on reducing crime. The book consists of 20 prevention programs that have been developed and implemented successfully in four Mexican cities, including Juárez where violence was at its peak a few years ago.

The e-book, which is free and available online, is part of the USAID's Crime and Violence Prevention Program which is supposed to address one of the goals of the Merida Initiative: building stronger and more resilient communities that can resist the pressures of crime and violence.

The Merida Initiative is a security cooperation agreement between the Mexican and U.S. governments that was launched in 2008.

"The e-book is an important bilateral effort between the two countries," USAID México Deputy Mission Director Margaret Enis Spears said. "It is an intellectual product that will benefit hundreds and hundreds of communities in México."

The e-book can be accessed at PCC.org.mx and at USAID.gov
