The Federal Judiciary Council (CJF) has opened four Criminal Justice Centers, which include courtrooms for oral trials in the states of Baja California, Guanajuato, Querétaro and San Luis Potosí, thus bringing to eight the total of similar centers throughout the country. By constitutional mandate, the new criminal justice system, including oral trials, must be operating throughout the country, at both federal and state levels, no later than June 2016.
Last April, the CJF launched its most ambitious call to appoint judges to the new 'accusatory' criminal justice system. At the same time, it made a multi-million [peso] transfer to increase by almost 38 percent the balance of the trust by which it will fund the necessary infrastructure.
According to reports from the CJF, 1,203 candidates have been admitted so far to six regional competitive examinations for appointing 150 judges to the new system. The judges will carry out the judicial functions of both control and trial.
