A mobile phone is stolen every four seconds in Mexico, according to GSMA Latin America CTO Jose Antonio Aranda. Speaking at the Latin American Telecommunications Conference in Cancun, Aranda said the theft of around 150 million mobile phones in Mexico had been recorded at the GSMA.

"The aim is to ensure that stolen device aren’t used; convince users to report robberies and not fall into the temptation to buy cheap and stolen devices", he said, according to Bolsamania.

The GSMA’s IMEI database figures for Mexico reveal that around 47 percent of the smartphones stolen are Samsung Galaxy devices, while 24 percent are iPhones.
