The largest group of people not born in Mexico who are taken before immigration stations in Baja California are originally from the United States, said the representative from the Mexican Immigration Institute, Rodulfo Figueroa Pacheco.
The federal official reported that so far in 2015, 844 foreigners who were in Baja California were returned to their country of origin when they could not prove they were in Mexico legally. Of those, 507 are Americans, 114 were of other nationalities, among them Chinese and the remainder were Central Americans: 94 Hondurans, 61 Salvadorans and 68 Guatemalans.
"The Chinese are those who most have their legal status regularized, because they have to move from China to Mexico, or arrive in the United States and then enter Baja California, and this is a process which costs a lot of money, but there are people who charge money to bring them into Mexico illegally," he said.
In 2014, he said, there were 1,269 foreigners deported, 600 of them were born in the United States.
