The toughening of migratory policies in the country has caused the international image of Mexico to become a nation which is anti-immigrant, said Tonatiuh Guillén López, president of the College of the Northern Border (Colef).
The investigator said that the arrest and deportation figures for Central Americans in the entire territory of Mexico have surpassed those of the United States.
He stressed that in 2014, the National Immigration Institute detained and deported 36,000 Guatemalans, between 17,000 and 37,000 Hondurans and between 8,000 and 18,000 Salvadorans.
Another of the aspects addressed by the Colef president, was the creation of a an economic zone in the southeast of Mexico at the border between Chiapas and Guatemala, where that Mexican state has become a recipient of Central American labor.
Guillén López explained that different from the United States, in Chiapas the economic conditions are not the best, in addition there is too much labor exploitation.
For this reason, he added that the Mexican government intends to create an economic zone in that region, where immigrants work and strengthen the Chiapas agricultural sector.
He said he is in favor of creating these economic zones, but with a state policy which includes the Tijuana - San Diego region, where the economy is much stronger.
He insisted that the federal government should also consider driving the creation of this economic zone, which now is one of the largest in the world.
