The US Supreme Court recently passed a historic ruling making the US the 21st country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide, just like its neighbors Mexico and Canada.
And amid this important development, the first health-linked LGBTQ study was announced. Using the technology developed by Apple, two doctors from San Francisco have begun the "ambitious study" of the LGBT health using an app called PRIDE.
BuzzFeed reported that the new app will run using ResearchKit, the newly-launched medical research framework which uses the cloud to connect researchers and patients, and other contributors.
ResearchKit has received support from several large health groups but its effectiveness remains unclear. ResearchKit was launched in April.
PRIDE participants can submit some basic information, and suggest topics related to LGBTQ health that they want researchers to study in the future. Participants will have the option to read other suggestions, respond and contribute to them.
The PRIDE app was created by Doctors Mitchell Lunn and Juno Obedin-Maliver from the University of California in San Francisco.
