Mexico’s tax base has grown “in an important way” under President Enrique Peña Nieto’s administration, Finance and Public Credit Secretary Luis Videgaray said.

From December 2012 to May 2015, more than 12 million new taxpayers were added to the SAT tax agency’s rolls, “an increase of 24 percent,” Videgaray said during a conference in Merida, the capital of Yucatan state.

“But what matters isn’t just the number of taxpayers. It matters that the taxpayers, the citizens, want to fulfill their obligations,” the Cabinet official said.

...Mexico registered “an outstanding” increase of 20 percent in April, compared to the same month in 2014, “in the number of tax returns filed by physical persons to meet their annual obligation,” Videgaray said.
