Five heavily armed men from Michoacan, a central Mexican state, pictured with rocket launchers and a Barret anti-aircraft weapon, announced the creation of a new “self-defense” force, which according to the founders, will combat drug cartels.
“We inform the people of Michoacan that due to events and warnings by criminal groups, the 'Trojan Whites' (Blancos de Troya) will defend their areas against all those who attempt to be wise guys,” they announced in a message published in their Facebook account.
The five men appear in a photo along with rocket launchers and a Barret gun, which is considered an anti-aircraft weapon, as well as other high-power weapons, and other military accessories. The men have not been identified and their faces are deliberately obscured in the photo.
The new group said they are willing to fight in favor of an Apatzingan — a city in Michoacan that has been the scene of various violent incidents — free of extortion fees and criminals that affect the people of the central Mexican state.
They also accused the federal government of dividing and promoting conflicts among the self-defense forces that at one point were present in 36 of the 113 municipalities of Michoacan, considered one of the most violent states in Mexico and a major hub for the production of heroin and marijuana cultivation.
