The Human Rights Commission of the United Nations has approved three resolutions presented by Mexico regarding migrant rights, women’s rights and the protection of human rights in the fight against terrorism.

The Foreign Relations Secretariat (SRE) detailed in a statement that the three initiatives were approved following unanimous backing for the proposals.

The SRE indicated that the resolution regarding the protection of migrant rights reaffirmed the need to protect the rights of all those who find themselves in this situation, whatever their status.

It is the shared responsibility of the country of origin, the country of transit and the county of destination to guarantee that this is achieved, he said.

This is the first time that the Human Rights Commission of the U.N. has recognized the vulnerability of migrants in transit and the need to protect them.

...The resolution on the elimination of discrimination of women should focus on avoiding discrimination both at home and in the public sphere.

The resolution confirms the need for the states to fight on all fronts against terrorism, assuming it conforms to international law.
