Americans Don't Know Why We Celebrate 4th of July! (Mark Dice)
In a video posted to YouTube by media analyst Mark Dice, California beach-goers revealed a stunning lack of knowledge regarding the July Fourth holiday. Some did not know when the Declaration of Independence was signed, who signed it or what the holiday represents.
“What country famously broke away from England to start their own country in the late 1700’s," Dice asked one man. “I have no idea man, I don’t know," the man said.
One woman thought July 4th was “the day that we overtook the south… it’s our independence… from the south." Apparently, the woman confused Independence Day with the Civil War, which happened nearly 100 years later.
