Studies by the Attorney General of the State of Mexico (PGJEM) and the federal Attorney General's Office (PGR) show that of the 22 people who were killed by soldiers on June 30, 2014, within a warehouse in Tlatlaya, 11 were virtually executed, another five died while carrying out 'instinctive defense maneuvers' and there is no mention of whether the rest had fired on the military.
In the documents it states that the weapons of three victims were empty, while in the early studies they were identified as participants in the confrontation with members of the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA). La Jornada obtained a copy of the expert report in response to a request for public information.
Forensic studies, on which the PGR has based accusations against three soldiers for murder of the 22 victims, said the military also used a rifle from which they had erased the registration number and another gun of unknown origin.
According to the report, the soldiers shot at least 160 bullets and the victims 12. The soldiers hit with 60 of their shots, all in the chests of the criminal suspects. The report states that three bullets injured a member of the Army.
