Once a laid-back resort village, Tulum’s pace has quickened, with new shops, restaurants and nightlife options complementing the broad white beaches and yoga retreats. (The New York Times)
Tulum is situated on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, and is part of a tourist region known as the Riviera Maya. It’s about an hour and half’s drive from Cancun, which has the closest major airport. Tulum has warm, tropical weather all year round. October to December is considered the best time to visit Tulum, hurricane season is over and the weather is warm but not too hot.
Along with a beautiful stretch of coastline and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, the town is known for its laid-back, hippie vibe. Needless to say, toting a yoga mat is de rigueur and it’s not hard to locate a green juice.
