Among the many crises affecting Mexico, all which seem to derive in violence, is the illegal appropriation of properties – many times promoted by authorities themselves or political parties – an action that Thursday left various people injured and over 169 arrested after an all out battle in an eastern area of Mexico City, various local media reported.

However, few times are these conflicts covered in international media, but what happened in Mexico City Thursday is worth talking about as hundreds of people turned a huge empty lot into a battlefield before police came an arrested over 160 people who had been fighting with knives, clubs, bottles, stones and fists. About 200 families that claimed to have no home attempted to take over the property.

The property in question is called La Poblanita and it is located in the east of the capital, in Tlahuac. Over 200 families invaded the lot and set up makeshift shacks there, angering hundreds more who went there to try and recover the property.

Mexican newspaper La Jornada said 300 police were deployed to the scene of the battle with anti-riot equipment.
