Investigations into a gunfight between Mexican army forces and alleged gang members in the town of Tlatlaya concluded that the army lined up and executed 12 to 15 people that had laid down their weapons and surrendered.
Now the government has said that it will pay out over $3m to be shared by the survivors and victims' families. It is the biggest payout by the army since they were deployed to combat Mexico's violent cartels.
