The lack of regulations for domestic labor causes 124,300 children in Mexico to be employed under risky conditions and be victims of exploitation, National Council for Discrimination Prevention (CONAPRED) reports.
Two out of ten Mexican children and teenagers involved in domestic labor are between 5 and 13 years old and many work in order to attend school, feed themselves or getting dressed, the source added.
A recent publication by CONAPRED also adds that the 11.3 percent of children, from five to 17 years, lives in a state different from their home state, 67.4 percent Works for a third party and the 32.6 percent do it along with their families.
The document, jointly made by the ministry of the Interior, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, stresses that the nature of the children's labor exposes them to violent situations, exploitation or mistreatment.
A study by the International Labor Organization (ILO) suggests that minors who work in the houses often receive low quality food apart from the family and the employer, and sleep in places like the kitchen.
A CONAPRED survey made to 243 maids showed that five percent of them are girls between 2 and 17 years old.
