Happy. That’s the word that kept popping up during my stay at Club Med Cancun Yucatan, located on a sexy curl of white sand north of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

...Club Méditerranée, a French-accented company that now has more than 70 resorts worldwide, built this South-of-the-border paradise in Cancun decades ago, before scores of other hotels propelled the area into a hot spot for North American sun worshippers. Having its roots in Cancun’s beginnings gives the Club Med here, on the Caribbean Sea, a beloved life-well-lived ambience. Its recent $14-million renovation, constructing a new Maya Lounge, as well as revamping two restaurants and sprucing up 376 Hacienda-style guest rooms, are excellent improvements, indeed. The best news for families, however, are the 60 new Aguamarina suites, all with water views and - hip hip hooray! - separate bedrooms for parents and kids.

The resort is an all-inclusive property, so all food, most alcohol, a wide range of land and water sports, entertaining activities, and gratuities are included in one rate, which makes it easier to budget your vacation and embolden lots of laid-back fun.
