Yesterday, the Report and Proposals on Everyday Justice in Mexico, prepared by the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE, a university specializing in social sciences) was presented. It was developed in response to one of the issues [number 7 of 14] for action that the President unveiled in his Decalogue for a Mexico in Peace with Justice and Development, announced on November 27, in the context of the crisis of insecurity following the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students.
In his speech receiving the report, the President admitted that everyday [routine civil] justice is beyond the reach of most Mexicans. MV Note: This includes Civil, Family, Labor, Commercial (Contracts) and Administrative Law.
"It is necessary to reverse this situation to renew the social contract and restore public confidence in the law and institutions," he said.
He noted that the routine civil justice "is delayed, forgotten and in many cases left behind". In practice, he said, "this justice is usually exclusive, slow, complex and costly, causing most Mexicans not to be able to access it or to become dissatisfied with its results."
Peña said the lack of access to justice is "longstanding" and in the forums conducted by CIDE it became clear "that society is not resigned to injustice. It's a good thing the transforming impulse reaches all areas!"
