Apparently “passwerd” is not a great choice to protect Internet accounts from faceless computer hackers. Using permutations and misspellings of common words makes it simple for outside agencies to infiltrate private records, bank statements, and emails. Spelling out numbers, like “onetwothreefour,” doesn’t work too well either.
That’s according to former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, who, along with explaining to Last Week Tonight host John Oliver that government agencies can view illicit sexts, talked about the importance of using more than a five- to eight-character password.
“Bad passwords are one of the easiest ways to compromise a system,” Snowden explained to Oliver.
