The General Law of Transparency was approved by the Chamber of Deputies with 264 votes in favor, 68 against and one abstention, so now it goes to the President for publication. [There are 500 deputies.] According to lawmakers, who approved the legislation exactly as it was passed by the Senate, this law "establishes the principles and rules to ensure the right of access to information held by any authority."

Deputies from PAN [National Action Party], PRD [Party of the Democratic Revolution], Citizen's Alliance, New Alliance and Morena [Movement for National Regeneration] presented 36 amendments to various articles, but none were approved.

With this law, political parties, trade unions or any agency receiving public funds will have to make transparent how they use them. Legislators must make public the amounts of their expense allowances, benefits, commissions, etc. They cannot keep private any information related to serious human rights violations. In addition, a National Transparency System is created.

MV Note: "Corporate unions", such as the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM), established by the PRI government after the Mexican Revolution, receive government funding.
