Gueros Trailer (Zurich Film Festival)

After having made a big splash on the international festival circuit, black-and-white slackers movie Gueros has scored 12 of Mexico's Ariel Award nominations.

Writer-producer-director Alonso Ruizpalacios will vie for best picture, director, first work and original screenplay at Mexico's top film awards ceremony on May 27 at Mexico City's Palace of Fine Arts. Co-produced by Gael Garcia Bernal, Gueros is a playful road movie set against a backdrop of student protests in the Mexican capital.

Gueros competed in Berlin's Panorama section last year and won best first feature. At Tribeca, it walked away with best cinematography and special jury mention for new narrative director.

In the Ariel's best picture and director categories, Gueros will go up against Morelia film fest winner Carmin Tropical, box office hits Guten Tag, Ramon and The Perfect Dictatorship, and Las Oscuras Primaveras.
