Mexico's consumer prices rose for a second consecutive month in March and at a faster-than-expected pace, recent data from the statistical office INEGI shows.
The consumer price index climbed 0.41 percent monthly after a 0.19 percent gain in February. Economists had forecast a 0.32 percent rise.
Annual inflation accelerated to 3.14 percent in March, after easing to 3 percent in February from 3.07 percent in January. Economists had expected an inflation figure of 3.05 percent.
The core CPI rose 0.26 percent monthly in March after a 0.34 percent gain in the previous month. It was also the second straight month of increase in the index. Economists had forecast a 0.25 percent gain.
On an annual basis, core inflation climbed to 2.45 percent in March from 2.4 percent in February.
