In Mexico there are 46.8 work accidents every hour and, despite campaigns to promote safer workplaces, the number dropped 2.7% between 2013 and 2014, according to statistics of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

Last year 404,566 people suffered an accident at their workplace, compared to 415,660 in 2013. This means over 1,123 accidents every day.

Manuel Díaz Vega, Health at Work coordinator of the IMSS, said that 1,345 people died due to work accidents in 2014, slightly more than the 1,314 deaths registered in 2013.
