Tianguis Turistico in Acapulco (Gobierno de la República)
As Tianguis Turistico in Acapulco drew to a close, the city’s tourism officials expressed confidence that the conference served as an excellent platform to illustrate the city’s tourism renaissance. “We are optimistic that Tianguis helped showcase Acapulco’s unique tourism offerings to the world,” said Pedro Haces, president of the Acapulco Destination Marketing Office. “Acapulco’s improved infrastructure and upcoming projects demonstrate that its commitment to tourism shows no signs of slowing down.”
This year’s Tianguis drew some heavy hitters, including Mexico’s President Pena Nieto, who inaugurated the conference; and former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, who, as part of the 2015 Dual Year Mexico-United Kingdom initiative designed to promote communications between the two countries’ societies and governments, appeared at an invitation-only event
Pena congratulated tourism officials from Acapulco and Guerrero, the state where the city is situated, on the myriad improvements that have been made to the city’s tourism infrastructure, while reiterating the government’s commitment to supporting tourism throughout the country, which he said was an important economic driver to Mexico’s economy.
