In response to a request for information on the case of the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students by the Mexican daily La Jornada, the country's new Attorney General Arely Gomez said it was not a crime against humanity, but rather an "isolated incident" as it did not involve a generalized and systematic attack against the population.

Last week, a team of experts from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights said the case involved enforced disappearances and called on authorities to apply this charge and adopt policies to address this widespread practice. Clayton Conn reports from Mexico City.
