Felipe de la Cruz, the father of one of the survivors of an attack on a group of education students in southern Mexico last year, made a presentation on the case this weekend to the U.S. branch of Amnesty International.
The students' families consider it essential that the human rights organization "know the facts" so it can make recommendations that will help the victims' cause, De la Cruz told Efe.
De la Cruz's appearance on Saturday before Amnesty International was part of the "Caravana 43," a tour of 43 U.S. cities over a month to drum up support for an investigation to determine what really happened to the 43 education students who disappeared in the city of Iguala last September.
The victims' families welcome "the strong support we are getting in New York from Mexicans and Latinos," as well as from people of "different nationalities who have lived through similar things" and offered their backing, De la Cruz said.
A demonstration is planned on Sunday in Manhattan's Union Square to inform the public about the case.
