Work on Mexico City’s new airport - one of the most complex projects in the world - ought to begin within weeks, following the awarding today of the first construction contract.

The Mexican firm ICA, or Ingenieros Civiles y Asociados, was awarded the contract to build the access roads in the terminal building area.

It was among three bidders who were invited to participate in the process, winning the contest with a price of 8.13 million pesos, or US $535,000. Bids were also received from Global Construcciones and Ingeniería y Construcciones Gabe.

The contract with ICA is to be signed within the next 15 days, and the work to be undertaken within 60 days after.
