The Superior Audit Office (ASF) said that in the last decade 86 billion dollars were wasted for corruption and embezzlement in Mexico's government.

This cut the country's economic growth by at least one percentage point, said Luis Foncerrada, director of the Center for Economic Studies of the Private Sector (CEESP), considering that the money that was not invested, or was embezzled or stolen is equivalent to between 0.3% and 0.5% of Mexico's GDP per year.

For this reason the president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Gerardo Gutiérrez Candiani, asked the Senate to approve the anti-corruption law to punish those responsible for these crimes, because in the past seven years opacity in the country grew 80%, with a "black hole" of 56 billion pesos (US$3.7 billion) last year.
