An arms exchange campaign began today in the Mexican state of Guerrero and will end next December, as part of a disarmament program to reduce crime. This plan was coordinated by the Ministries of Public Security and National Defense.

Local media reported that the campaign is under the supervision of the General Directorate of Social Crime Prevention of the state agency and that the entity will pay from 500 (33 dollars) to five thousand 500 pesos (336 dollars) depending on the type of weapon.

Currently the unit for delivery of weapons is at the Polideportivo de Renacimiento in Acapulco and will remain there until 21st February, official sources said.

Authorities reported that afterwards it will be moved to towns in Costa Grande, and later to locations in Costa Chica.
