CUERNAVACA, Morelos - Javier Sicilia, leader of the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity [MPJD], criticized that almost four years after the murder of his son, Juan Francisco, and six of his friends, not one of the 23 involved has been convicted, despite the fact that the Attorney General's Office (PGR) charges and argues that the detainees directly and indirectly took part in the multiple homicide.

In an interview, Sicilia assured that "it is worrisome, because so long as there are no convictions, there is impunity."

Sicilia added that his son's case shows that the State has failed once again, because the federal and state governments charged 23 detainees for the death of his son, but not a single verdict has been handed down. He regretted that the murders, disappearances, kidnappings and other crimes continue to occur during  Enrique Peña Nieto's PRI [Party of the Institutional Revolution] administration without the authorities at the three levels of government [federal, state, municipal] doing anything to prevent it.

Sicilia concluded: "The social breakdown has provoked a response from several people and organizations in the country, who are calling for a new Constitutional Convention and an electoral boycott."
