President Enrique Peña Nieto met yesterday at Los Pinos official residence with former US President Bill Clinton to discuss several issues, according to an official communique released today.

Clinton, who was at the helm of the United States for two terms in 1993-2001, attended the summit Youth and Productivity in this capital, organized by Laureate International Universities, a network of private education institutions of which he is honorary chancellor.

During the meeting with Pena Nieto, Clinton apologized to Mexico for his country's responsibility in the drug trafficking suffered by this Central American country in the wake of the struggle he started during his term in office to prevent drug smuggling by air and sea.

"You have all you need. I wish you had no drug trafficking, but it is not your responsibility. We targeted drug transportation by air and sea and then it all ended up by land and I apologize for that," said Clinton.
