Imagine getting into a car that you had summoned by speaking into your smartwatch and then drove to your location itself, or sitting in one that allowed four seats to face each other while it carried you to your location.
It may sound far-fetched but all that technology is currently on show at International CES in Las Vegas.
Driverless cars that can park for you and rotate the front seats so you can chat to other passengers are proving to be one of the highlights of this year's technology convention.
The technology trade show played host to some of the biggest names in the car industry, and BMW and Mercedes have come with two examples of how they see the vehicle industry changing.
The most striking is the Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion, which has rotating front seats so the driver and front passenger can fully turn their chairs and socialise with others in the back, while the car autonomously drives itself.
"Anyone who focuses solely on the technology has not yet grasped how autonomous driving will change our society," said Dr Dieter Zetsche, head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
